A LITTLE ABOUT ME

After graduating with a B.A. in Economics from the University of California at Los Angeles, Richard passed the California State CPA Exam and immediately started selling loans door-to-door for Opus Mortgage – the company founded by his mother Sue Wang, a successful former real estate salesperson in the 1970’s and early 1980’s. Two years and a hundred loans later, Richard took “a break” by attending law and business schools at Santa Clara University earning his JD/MBA and subsequently being sworn into the California State Bar in 1999. He gained valuable experience as an attorney over the next few years working for an insurance litigation and then estate planning and administration firm before ultimately rejoining Opus permanently in 2002.

Richard is now a lifelong committed loan originator. Coupling his finance and legal background with his family-bred work ethic and commitment to unparalleled customer service, it is difficult to find another equal. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Silicon Valley Chapter of the California Association of Mortgage Professionals and hopes to increase outreach into the mortgage broker community in light of the ongoing overhaul of the industry.

Last but not least, Richard volunteers time as President of Santa Clara Unified Parents, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization to benefit parents of students in the Santa Clara Unified School District. Raised and schooled in Sunnyvale/Cupertino, Richard remains firmly anchored in the South Bay. He has been living in Santa Clara since 2004, together with his wife Vivien and daughter Madeline (“Maddie”). Richard is also an accomplished Triathlete and enjoys wine, golf (on some holes), and following the SF Giants.
